Honestly, I really hope this bill is defeated... but if it's not, it's just proof that we need to rise up and take down the damn Corporations and their special interests. In this economy, it doesn't make sense for us to just let them keep so much to themselves. People are starving on the streets, and can't pay their damn bills, and they want to cut the pensions of honest workers just so their CEO's can have a half million dollars more in THEIR pension... oh, and **** about You Tube videos, torrents, and any website that they THINK might be infringing upon "their" interests. Yeah, that sounds productive and helpful to the rest of society, right? [/sarcasm] Edited by Valtus3200, Jan 21 2012, 03:51 AM.

I know what you mean. The internet shouldn't be the only really good way to exercise rights. It's funny that this is the only bill that I've heard about from a ridiculous number of people at college. There are tons of other bills floating around that nobody cares about/knows that they exist, but once their internet privileges are trudged upon, everyone jumps up. What about the elderly fighting for their health care? |
Now, there's an idea. | |

In other cases, people take to the streets and this has happend, the thing about internet bills is that some, such as SOPA, would have a global effect. In the UK, we had the tuition fee protests, yeah it didn't go anywhere but who would notice UK sites shutting down? Some did display marks in protest but if it's not something that will affect the world, only that country will take part. |

I see numerous-fold more people in the same area protesting this bill than any other bill that has to do with their area. I understand that bills that have a global effect catch more eyes, i.e., the whole planet's populus, but I see very little action (at least in my location) taken by my community against bills that have an effect on that community. However, when this bill shows up, EVERYONE knows about it. Hope that made sense, sort of run-onny. |

A lot of people in the UK know about the NHS bill and the Welfare Reform bill and have voiced their oppositions towards them. The fact is, someone in the US, for example, isn't going to care about the NHS bill. Same with the Scotish Independece Refferendum, a lot of people know about it and voicing their opinions on it, but globally, few people care. |

i think what he means is that we have bills in consideration like this one and this and this that people could get just as easily worked up about but don't. I've seen a lot people talk about how people only care about horrible laws such as these when they affect them directly but otherwise just don't care. |

Suppose it's a diffrent culture then, people here will protest or activly voice their opinion against legislation. But people in general will protect their own intrests first, those are the people who start a protest and educate people, more people then join in if they agree with the message, such as the Occupy Protests. |

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Even things that would affect people are dismissed, but this issue was not. |
